Caravan and Trailer Manufacturers on the 1st of July 2021 the Road Vehicle Standard Act 2018 replaced the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989. The new act includes further requirements on Caravan and Trailer Manufacturers one of which is that they need to attain ISO 9001 Quality Certification.
What is ISO 9001?
ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised Quality Management System (QMS) standard that ensures businesses have proven processes in place that are effective at achieving consistent quality outcomes for all their products and services. In order to receive your Certification you need a third party Certification Body to conduct an External Certification Audit of your Management System after which we will provide you with a certificate stating your Management System complies with the ISO 9001 Standard!
What are the new requirements from the Australian Government?
On 1 July 2021 the Road Vehicle Standards Act 2018 replaced the Motor Vehicle Standards Act 1989. Information on applying for an approval under the RVSA is available at Road Vehicle Standards laws. On 1 July 2021 a 12-month transitional period from the MVSA to the RVSA began for certain segments of the industry. These transitional arrangements involve: Identification Plate Approval (IPA) holders registered automotive workshops (RAWs) specialist and enthusiast vehicles vehicles with an MVSA import approval low ATM trailers (trailers with an aggregate trailer mass less than or equal to 4.5 tonnes).
EXTRACT (PAGE 10) Quality Management System (QMS) accredited by the relevant international certification body. This means you would hold a valid ISO 9001 series certificate with a scope relevant to the manufacture of your type of low ATM trailer. If you do not have an ISO 9001 series certificate, the department expects you to support your claim of having full control over the design, componentry and manufacture of the low ATM trailer type For details about the expected content of a full QMS, please see Appendix 2 Details expected in a summarised QMS are provided in Appendix 3.
